Ok so after a year of saying it I finally went from Avid to FCP. Alright so my setup is with a very souped up iMac but it has only one fire wire port. So I have to digitize everything using said firewire port to my deck then once everything is digitized unplug my deck and plug my firewire drive in. Question is how do I move everything over and have it reconnect to the correct project? Sorry if its a newb question but I want to try and keep my storage on the iMac as clean as possible and edit from the external drive.

Use the Media Manager and the COPY option.

Or….just manually drag it from the desktop to the external…It’ll copy it too. Then trash the ones from your iMac (wait to empty the trash). Then RECONNECT when you go back into FCP. Once everything has reconnected…THEN Empty your trash.
