June 6, 2005 at 6:20 pm[David Robinson] “But existing software will not work. You will have to buy new software.”
Um, that’s not what Steve said on the stage. They are using something called Rosetta that allows all Mac apps to run on the Intel chips today.

June 6, 2005 at 6:21 pmPretty amazing news. It’s wierd hearing the several-year-old “Mac on Intel” rumor finally being confirmed as fact.
[David Robinson] “… there will be something called Rosetta that will run PowerPC apps, but I can’t imagine running FCP this way …”
Back when Macromedia was originally developing Final Cut (“KeyGrip”), before Apple bought it, it was a dual platform application. The alpha versions of the software were functionally identical on both platforms. I wonder if any of the old FC/KG WinTel codebase still exists or is relevent?
We certainly live in interesting times …
All the best.

June 6, 2005 at 6:28 pmWalter, my second post above mentions Rosetta – I didn’t see it earlier.
I think that as long as developers are good about creating universal binaries (and you know Apple definitely will) this won’t be much of a headache for the end user.

June 6, 2005 at 6:29 pmThis should put all the wild-eyed speculation of a G5 PowerBook to bed.
Now I am thinking a dual core Pentium CPU with hyperthreading PowerBook–yea!!!

June 6, 2005 at 6:30 pmFrom what I have heard, FCP has been running on a Marklar prototype system, and running very well. SJ did state that every version of X has been compiled for the x86. If I remember correctly FCP was (A few years ago) compiled for the x86. I think this is a very good move, will hurt sales for a year or so, but they still have the iPod. It

June 6, 2005 at 7:01 pmDoes this mean we have to hear that ridiculous Intel Inside Da Dum De Dum tune every time we see an Apple ad?
