It’s been a while since I used Discreet Edit so I can’t remember this functions name. There was a way to grap the front of a clip and slide it down the timeline moving all the rest of the clips in order down the timeline. Almost like an insert edit that moves all down the time line, except you could grab the front of the clip and manually move it up and down the timeline to any point. I know you can highlight the time line and do this, but I liked the security of making sure that everything would move in unison with each other. I’ve done the highlight thing, and accidentally missed a few timelines that were out of sight.

    Thanks for any pointers

Hit “t,t,t,t”, and your pointer turns to a double arrow pointing right, or click and hold on the single arrow pointing right in your vertical toolbar (that’s the one usually near your timeline, unless you’ve moved it) and select the double arrow pointing right. That is the Select All Tracks Forward Tool. Click on the first clip you want shuffled down. That tool will select everything on your timeline from the click to the end. After you’ve selected, the double arrow turns into a crosshair-looking thing, like the move tool, so just pick up the selected tracks and move them down to where you want them.

It may take a few tries to get the hang of it, but it’s a fabulous tool! (And remember, if you’re not comfortable with what you’ve done, there’s always Undo!) Check out all the Select Tools, they are very handy!

t will summon the “track” tool.

hold SHIFT, and it turns into the “All Tracks Forwards” tool.

    (same as tttt, but easier)

    cheers,
    nick
