Moving Proxy files
I have all of my original RED Files on my Firewire 800 Drive. They are converted to Proxies via Final Cut X. Im wanting to move my proxies from the drive to my XSAN Server, without having to move my original RED Files. Is there a easy way to do this. My thought is, cut everything in the proxy format then reconnect it after I do my cuts to my original RED media on the External Hard drive.

Sure- just copy the Event or Events while skipping the Original Media folder to your XSAN and move them out of your local Events folder. Then Add San location and relaunch the Event. If it goes offline, go into the Event properties and Modify Event references to point to the Proxies on the SAN.

Do I copy the CurrentVersion.fcpevent to the xsan as well?

I tried what you said and everything disconnected and I could not reconnect. I guess I didnt understand exactly what you meant. Could you be more specific with your directions. I apologize I am very new to FCPX. Maybe someone can make a Video on youtube on how to do this.

Not sure if this episode of macbreak will be of any help Elliot. Also I know they advise not to move events/projects via finder, however I do and have done so since it first release. Reason being is moving events via FCPX currently doesn’t allow you to only copy the proxy files, which is why I mange this myself manually using finer 😉
