What are considerations for moving a project around between computers? (Version 5)

Media files (capture folder), and project folder with veg files are on a FW drive so i figured it would be practical to move between computers – laptop and desktop.

What about media bins? i can’t figure out where those are stored.

I look in the project folder and all I see are veg files, no media bins.

(unlike something like media 100 where everything about the project is in the project folder)

    Is this practical?

Does Vegas companion cover this? (where to look)

Hope this is not a pain to answer!!!

    Thanks,
    Wayne

Your bins are part of the project (veg) file.

Sounds like you are doing it right Wayne – if everything is on an external drive you can work on the same project anywhere. I often take a project to a client’s office this way and use a laptop – even record her Voice Over straight onto the timeline whilst she’s sitting at her desk.

The .veg file contains many things, including generated media, bins as Gary said, and basically every editing or organising decision you have made in the project.

Vegas is very simple compared to M100. Basically you just need to move the media files and project files. If they’re on a 1394 drive then the relative paths should stay the same and you’re set. As has already been said, the bins and subclips are just a “by reference” feature contained within the project file.

Look through the prefs, there might be a few other folders that should have been put onto that 1394 drive.
