  • Moving project from FCP 6 to FCP 7

I am currently running FCP 6.0.6. I have a client that needs a project done in FCP 7. I can’t currently upgrade my machine, for various reasons. My question is- if I edit in FCP 6, and then do a final pass in FCP 7 on someone else’s machine (saving it as a FCP 7 project), will this cause any issues? In other words, does doing a project in FCP 6 and then saving it in FCP 7 create the same project as if it were done in FCP 7 the whole time? I want to make sure that I give my client what he wants.

    Thanks

Going from 6 to 7 is easy. You won’t even notice a thing.

Going from 7 to 6…that’s the tricky part.

You can natively open an FCP 6 project in FCP 7. This will not cause any issues. The only way to open the FCP 7 project back in FCP 6 is by using XML export.

Thanks to both of you- that’s what I was hoping.

Hi guys, I had a pal call today saying they can’t play their sequence having upgraded from FCP6 to 7.
Instead of the sequence clips being blue, they are white and won’t play. Audio is OK.
The footage was originated on a JVC 111 and is MPEG 2 and was being edited natively in FCP6.

Apparently it takes hours to open, and it seems to be rendering all the time.
    Any clues ?
