    I am just starting to get to grips with Vegas having been a premier pro user for sometime. I was trying to find out if Vegas has a similar function to the following;

Project Manager – used when the video is complete to automate the collection all the media associated with a project and put them in the same directory. It also allows you to only save the bits of media that you use thus saving space.

Sequence – allows you to create several independent videos in one project(each video can be a number of audio and video tracks). Each video can be treated as a piece of media in their own right. Sequences can be nested, makes composition easier. It may be similar to Group but I am having difficulty using that function to get a simple video and audio fade at the start and end. My issue is that as it fades some bits fade quicker than others giving blocks.

    Any help or ideas appreciatted.

    Many thanks

    Steve

The answer is yes to both questions.

    Project Manager:
When you’re done with your video, click “save as” and select the “copy media with project” option at the bottom of this screen.
On the next screen, choose a location (preferably separate from the current saved files location), give it a new name and click “save”.
This brings up another window that gives you the option to save the material as is or to add heads & tails to all media.

    Sequence:
Vegas handles this a bit differently than Premiere.
The technique is called “nested vegs”.
I’ll use the example of a DVD slideshow I do for my kids school.
It’s broken into 5 separate sections.
I work on each section separately and save them as their own veg file.
Once each section is complete, I import each veg file into a new (master) project.
Each veg comes in as a single video track and stereo audio pair, no matter how many tracks the original one had.
If you want to make changes to any of the veg files, right-click it on the timeline and select “Edit in Vegas (*.veg)”.
This opens a new instance of Vegas with all original tracks. Once your changes are made, save it and exit.
The original veg is updated as well as the new master one you’re currently working on.

    project manager:
when you save a project, you can choose the COPY MEDIA WITH PROJECT tickbox in the Save dialogue and it will do exactly what you requested.

Sequences: Vegas does this with nested Veg project files.
Just create each sequence in its own copy of vegas (ie you can have multiple copies of vegas open at once, inclu one capturing or rendering while you work in another copy)

In the master file, just drop Veg files on the timeline much as you would any media. They can be edited the same as a normal media file.
Can also right click such a veg and edit the original.

    🙂
