The problem: How to move a half finished Xpress DV project from an old computer to a new PC running Media Composer. I want to use the internal data drive on the new computer instead of the G-Raid where the media files were originally created. So, I moved the OMF files using MDV_AVID to the new PC and everything’s fine except according to MC everything’s offline because it’s looking for the files on the G-Raid. Can anyone tell me how to change the drive specification for the project? Seems like it should be a simple thing to do but I can’t find anything on it in the MC manual.

Did you move or copy? Delete the media database file on the G-Raid. Your boot drive may be filtered out in Settings>Media Creation.

I copied the files from the G-Raid to the data drive (T:) in the new computer. The G-Raid is no longer connected. The data drive (T:) is the selected setting in Media Creation but the G-Raid is still the designated drive in the project bins. I just read a post referring to “relinking” which indicates that if the project folder/files and the media files are put on the same drive, they should relink with the new drive (T:) as the designated drive in the bins. I put my project files on a different drive from my media files. I’m about to move my project folder and do a test to see if this is the solution.

Are they in a folder called “OMFI MediaFiles” at the root level of the drive? And did you delete the media database files (“msmxxxx.mdb and msmxxxx.pmr)?

The answer to both of your questions is “yes” and now the drive designated in the bins is the new drive and all the files are online. So, that’s the solution to days of spinning my wheels. I wonder if it’s in the 650 page manual somewhere. Anyway, thanks a lot for the help.
