Moving Markers
Posted by Andy Lancaster on February 20, 2009 at 4:10 pmI’ve noticed that if I put markers on a clip I have opened from a bin and then later on change the speed of that clip, the markers don’t stay on the frame they marked before. Is there a way to work around this?

February 20, 2009 at 4:29 pmYou have to move them manually. Hopefully in a future version of FCP it will be available.

February 20, 2009 at 5:14 pmYou can reposition markers forward and extend markers.

February 20, 2009 at 6:05 pmHow does that work? I have a clip that is 1 hour long. I open it in the views and put markers on the good takes or shots. Then if I change the speed, the markers get messed up. How does repositioning them or extending them work in that situation?

February 20, 2009 at 7:21 pmYour biggest problem is the 1 hr clip. You really need to log and capture each individual clip. I know it’s tedious, but it will save you time in the end.

February 20, 2009 at 7:49 pmI wish I had shorter clips, but it is out of my control.

February 20, 2009 at 9:34 pmTake control. Set in and out points on your timeline and export the clips needed.

February 20, 2009 at 10:10 pmcould do that but would prevent future recapture and reconnection of projects.

February 21, 2009 at 6:23 amIf you twirl the triangle next to that master clip with the markers, you can select all the markers and option drag them to a new bin. That will give you subclips for each one. Then if you need them all to have a speed change, you can paste attribute for the change onto all of the subclips.

May 8, 2009 at 4:42 pmDoes there have to be a mark for the in and the out? Usually my producer sends me a clip with markers just when the shot they want starts.
