I want to create the effect where objects are zooming towards the camera view at slightly different rates, eventually flying past the edges of the frame.

I first tried setting the various objects in place and keyframed each to scale at slightly different rates. However, the result just looks like scaling (duh!) and not as if the objects are moving towards me in space.

I take it that I need to set up a number of layers, and have each layer move towards me in z space, to get the result I’m after, as well as adding some motion blur.

If so, how is that done? How do you control the camera view perspective to make the effect more/less pronounced? I know how to do this in a 3D app such as LightWave, but I’m sure it’s easier (and far faster) to do in AE.

    Hey there,

Just add a camera (later you can tweak it’s options to give you a greater or smaller field of view). Now make up a bunch of layers that you wish to fly past the camera. They can be text layers, standard layers, footage or other comps. Tick the little 3D box that is across from the layer’s name (it’s the column that has a little 3d cube at the top of it). Now all your layers will have THREE positional coordinates, X, Y and Z. Just shuffle the layers around in the 3d space by modifying the positions, especially the Z as this pushes them closer or further from the camera.

Finally, you can now animate the camera’s Z position and fly through the layers.

    Good luck

    Alex

    That’s it!

I was going wrong by trying to animation each layer, instead of the camera!

    Thanks!
