moving graphics in FCP HD
is there a way I can have a graphic move across the screen in FCP? like to animate it in a sense?

Might want to run the Tutorial that comes with FCP, this is covered in that. Or do a search in the Help menu on Keyframes.
You do with with Keyframes using the Motion tab. Center is your Position setting and the others are self explanatory.
Set your first keyframe, then all chages after that are automatically recorded by FCP.
