moving codec between machines
Posted by Steve Ascher on January 20, 2010 at 4:34 pmwe need to output in motion jpeg A which for some reason appears as an option on our MBP laptop but not our mac pro which is running identical FCS 3 (both fully updated and snow leopard)
have tried looking for legacy codecs in QT but there is no advanced menu in system prefs that we can find.
Is it possible to copy and paste codec from one system to the other? Where is it stored?
Thanks.

You don’t need to move the codec, you simply need to chec the Show Legacy Encoders box in QT preferences and the motion jpeg A codec will magically appear in all QT enabled apps.

January 20, 2010 at 8:01 pmThanks, David. i’ve read of this but cannot get this screen to appear. we’re on 10.6.2 and the preferences settings on QT 7 player don’t look like that, QT player 10 doesn’t appear to have preferences. Can you help us find that?

Yes it does… Go back to the menu and you’ll see that there two sets of preferences, one say only Preferences, that’s the wrong one, the other says Quicktime Preferences, that’s the right one. The image I posted is from there, and I’m using QT ver. 7.6.4.

January 20, 2010 at 8:22 pmOur 7.6.3 only has one preferences option in the pulldown menu under QT player 7. Or do we need to upgrade to QT pro to see the other? If so, should the FCS unlock code work to upgrade (doesn’t seem to) or do we have to pay separately?
Thanks.

January 20, 2010 at 10:54 pmAs an alternative, look in Apple>>System Preferences and open Quicktime there.
