  • Moving clips with attached audio.

Posted by Dan Crouch on April 19, 2013 at 12:43 pm

I have a very simple question.
I have finished my edit and need to move a few clips around.

But the clips in question has audio attached to it and I can’t find a way to un attach it to move my clip.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Dan.

Right/control click the clip and choose break apart audio… or select clip and use edit menu to do so (or is it clip menu?). Not next me computer right now. Google “break apart audio fcpx”

If the audio is already separate, but connected, hold the tilde key when moving your video clip.

    Genius!
Thankyou for your post Jeremy, hold down the alt key and simply move the clip.

    Very helpful indeed.
Quite annoying tho isn’t it. I will be moving more clips on their own than with music or effects attached.

    Thanks again,
    Dan.

[dan crouch] “hold down the alt key and simply move the clip.”

The default command is the “~” key, or tilde.

The name of the command is “override connections” in case you want to remap it to something else.

If your edit is done you can create a compound or secondary storyline of your audio. Then rearrange the videoclips for another version.
