Question about Movie Studio 12 and Sony Vegas Pro:

My timeline contains a movie created by trimming and combining many clips.

I have shortened a little clip at the beginning of the timeline. Is there a keyboard shortcut to drag all remaining clips together?

    I know I can:

    • zoom out to see the whole timeline
    • select the “Selection Edit Tool”
    • drag the selection around all remaining clips
    • select the “Zoom Edit Tool” to zoom back in
    • select the “Normal Edit Tool”
    • drag all selected clips to the desired position

and it’s done! But is there a faster way to achieve the same, e.g. press some key while dragging and it will drag the selected clip plus all other clips to the right of it?

That what Auto Ripple does Maria,
Go to options and its in the drop down list.
Or you can place the icon on the toolbar for easier access.

You can use Ctrl+L to turn on Auto Ripple before you move any events or use the ‘F‘ key directly after you move an event to ripple you last move. Don’t forget to use Ctrl+L again to turn off Auto Ripple after you complete any moves that you want to ripple the timeline.

Thanks so much for fast response! Wish I asked one hour ago, but it will still save me a lot of time now I started to tweak the project. Perfect!

Ok, thanks! The “F” will be very practical, too.

If you hold down the CTRL key whilst clicking events, you can move specific events.

If you want to move everything from a certain point on on one track, right mouse click and choose Select events to end, and then drag.

Lastly, to select a range, hold down shift, click and then click again elsewhere. All events in between will be highlighted. Drag.

These tricks also work between tracks. CTRL click two tracks then right mouse clicking select events to end highlights both tracks from the point you started to CTRL click.

I use ripple more than anything else when putting together a program.
I’ve taken the “Customize Keyboard” option and made the Caps Lock a hot key so I can quickly switch between the movement of my events. I find that saves me a lot of time and it’s much more handy to use than the “ctrl-shift-F”
