    Hi,
We’re looking for a system to move away from external hard drives. We’re about to work with at least 12 terrabytes of video on at least two workstations.

We were initially told to purchase a Pegasus and use thunderbolt cables to our two 2011 iMacs. Now we’re being told to take our old Mac Tower (later 2008) and turn that into a server and use gigabyte ethernet to connect. Using that scenario, we were told we would have to work locally – so download the files daily to work on them (that would take a few hours).

Our budget is $2000-$3000. Is this totally unrealistic? Are we stuck with external drives?
Any suggestions? What other information would help you comment on this?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

and exactly who is advising you to work this way ?
Do you want to spend hours downloading your files, just so you can edit, just so you can spend even more time uploading the changes ?

    Doesn’t this seem silly ?

And no, you can’t build a shared storage system for $3000.
