  • Movie Studio Platinum 9.0 hangs on adding to Project Media list

Posted by Steve Boreham on August 8, 2008 at 1:30 pm

As some forum contributors may recall from a previous thread where I was about to do it, I have now upgraded from Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 6.0 to Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0 for the sole reason of wanting Dolby 5.1 encoding. No other reason, because VMSP6 otherwise did everything I need.

Unfortunately I have gone from a perfectly working application to a buggy or badly installed one and would appreciate any shared pointers before I call Sony Support, please; I will then be better equipped if, indeed, I even need to call Sony SUpport.

I have searched the Forum (and beyond) but didn’t find close enough matches, so here goes:

    1) Start VMSP9
    2) Create a new project using either stereo or AC3 sound
    3) Navigate VMSP9 Explorer to the location of the required source files (in this case 12 MPEG files totalling 972MB)
    4) Highlight all files
    5) Observe that the pause before control returns to the User is MUCH longer than was the case for the same 12 files with VMSP6
    6) Press right mouse button option “Add to Project Media List”
    7) Observe that no “building peaks for file nn of NN” progress indication is given, unlike with VMSP6 (Yes, options are set to build all peaks at the outset not on demand, and interestingly a “building peaks” display IS given if a single file is added to the Project Media List)
    8) Observe using Windows Explorer that v e r y s l o w l y a complete set of SFK0 and SFK1 files is built (whereas rightly or wrongly VMSP6 only built SFK1 files and did so much, much, faster)
    9) Observe that having processed the last source MPEG (as indicated by the presence of an SFK0 and SFK1 file for it), control of VMSP9 is never returned to the User; it stays on the egg timer for as many hours as you are prepared to wait

Please will you kindly help me solve each of the steps that start with the word “observe”.

    Many thanks,
    Steve
