After some more testing… I found my problem…
The program is fine, it is the hard-drive causing this issue.

Using the footage from the other external hard-drive yields absolutely No problems. I will have to figure out why it is doing this, but I have at least confirmed that it is not the program.

OK, The hard-drive was not in my equation in figuring out your
solution. I would also recommend you get your files off of it
in case it crashes and you loose them.

Back in 2009, I too, in frustration with my old nameless video editing software, did some looking and found the free trial of Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9.

After the trial expired I bought it.
Then I bought at full price (more or less) SVP9.
Then upgraded to SVP10, then SVP11, and now SVP12.

Yes, at times it can be a little frustrating, but I have been very pleased over the years.

I mostly leave my system drive free of Media being used in Vegas. I most certainly wouldn’t expect VP12 to function well with an uncompressed AVI being stored on the system drive which is what you’ve suggested you’ve done? And THAT right there is the issue. The added reasons could be:

A] System drive fragmentation and that AVI has been squeezed into the areas not being used and then susequently Vegas attempting to source the parts of that AVI.

B] Little real estate on your system drive and, not so critical, badly pfragmented, although because of A] above will be adding to the issue too!

If you’ve proved that Vegas is good with the file on external and originally your AVI was stored on your system drive, you don’t clearly state this, then A] and B] would be the factors getting/resulting in a fractured experience with Vegas.

of more problems to come, including failure.

First get at least one of these (or similar from another manufacturer, not endorsing this one, in fact I have a different brand):

Hook it up to a SATA port on your computer.

Then grab one of these to stick in it – the hybrid drives are almost as fast without the SSD cost:

Put all your source media on it, when rendering, send the file to a drive other than it.
