Hi all, I’m new to this forum and movie making in general. Sony Vegas Pro 8 is the first software I have used for this sort of thing so I really am a novice!

I have managed to make a couple of short 4 minute movies which I’m pretty pleased with but I don’t find the tutorials much help beyond actual movie creation. The problem I’m having is with the size of the file once I’ve rendered it. The movies basically consist of a few short video clips and photographs to music. I’ve been converting them to .wmv files as this format estimated the lowest file size but even so, my 4 minute video rendered at 60MB!!! I can’t use this for anything! I’ve tried compressing it but that completely destroyed the quality of the video and made the picture size really small.

All I want to do with the videos is upload them to Facebook or Photobucket and maybe later put them on a DVD with other videos as a gift for family.

What I basically want to know (for starters) is how I can produce a small sized, great quality video?

I am also looking into getting my hands on Vegas Pro 8 Editing Workshop by Douglas Spotted Eagle – would anyone recommend this?

Hope somebody can help, looking forward to your replies.

DV AVI, whic you did not use, but is arguably a standard to measure agaiinst is about 215mb per minute so your 60 mb/4 min is quite compressed (about 15mb per minute)You lower filew size by reducing size and or reducing bit rate. Reducing bit rate will reduce quality while reducing size will…well…!Your going to hvae to try different codecs and sizes and see what you can live with. You will HAVE TO go with MPEG2 for DVD. You might try H264Main Concept AVC and see how you like that for web useor you could try Flash. But ypou’ll have to use something besides Vegas to render to Flash.

I have the book you are talking about. I will say this, It is a good book. I would be lost without it. It will take a bit of study, on your part. If you stay with it you and Spotted Egale can work it all out. I say go for it.
