Movie has no audio

On the NTSC disc did you use WAV audio or MPG audio? I believe the NTSC DVD spec does not allow MPG audio, just WAV and AC3. Most US DVD players support MPG audio but they don’t have to. Maybe in PAL countries they don’t? Double-check what audio format you used.

BTW, the PAL DVD spec does allow MPG audio. So if both discs use MPG audio it would explain why one plays fine and the other doesn’t. (I don’t think DVD Architect Studio supports AC3)

Ok, when I go to Vegas Movie Studio the audio that does play comes up as .wav it’s from Cinescore.

The audio that doesn’t play comes from the Camera as Quicktime.
Here’s more details on that audio:
Format ulaw 2:1
Attributes 16K, 16Bit, Mono

In DVD Architect I’m able to select:
PCM Stereo
AC-3 Stereo
AC-3 5.1 Surround

Okay, both disks I sent were in AC-3 Stereo. So that’s the problem. But there isn’t a Wave (.wav) option. Or is that the PCM Stereo?

OK, I’m way confused now. I misread your original post. I thought the NTSC disc had no audio but now I realize that you said that it had music with no commentary. Forget about the WAV thing… you made them AC3 and that was the correct thing to do. (BTW, yes… PCM is WAV format)

I also just went back to re-read your post and originally I thought the two discs were fine when you played them but not when your friend played them. Is that the case? Do they behave differently for your friend? Or do they not play right for you too?

You said that that the MOV file is not giving you audio. The first thing is to make sure the project plays back on the timeline before you render to any DVD format. Is the project playing back correctly? Just trying to figure out if the audio was ever correct.

I’m sorry I’ve confused you.
I’m not worried about the NTSC version for the USA, it plays and works great whether on the timeline in Vegas Studio, DVD Architect or via a DVD player on the computer and finally good on the TV. So the USA is good to go! 🙂

However, I sent it to a friend in England whom uses PAL format and wanted him to try the PAL and NTSC formats on his computer and TV. I couldn’t get the PAL to work here in the USA but didn’t know what would be best for the computer.

Here’s a chart of what he reported back.
He uses WinDVD on his computer.

So I guess that if I want to send him a PAL disk for TV than I should make it in PAL.

So if he wished to view it mainly on his computer I should send him the DVD in NTSC but redo the audio from AC-3 to PCM Stereo.

Does that sound right?

I’m not sure how PCM would be different than AC3 unless in Vegas there is a problem rendering the MOV audio to AC3 somehow. You can try rendering using PCM just to see what happens. Check the resulting WAV file and make sure all of the audio is there.

Otherwise, I would just send him PAL discs since they work.
