    Hi, guys.
    This one is pretty difficult to explain. I’ll post it under “expressions” because I’ve got a feeling that would be the way to solve it, sorry if I’m wrong.

    I’ve got a 3D scene with some objects plus a Null marking a certain spot in 3D space. The Null is not moving, but the camera is.
    Now, I’m adding a flare effect to the comp, which I’d like to originate from the Null spot. But, the flare effect origin is a 2D location on the frame, its coordinates not related to those of the Null. Plus, I cannot place it manually because, even when the Null does not move, the camera does, so its apparent position on the frame changes through time (it even goes out of the frame for some time).

    I think the answer would be to calculate the location of the Null relative to the frame, or maybe to the camera… I’m not sure.
    Well, sorry if I haven’t explained the issue properly, and thanks a lot for your help!
    Alex.

    I used this expression for our Opening Night Motion Menu Kit, which features a theater with realistic lighting:

    Name your null object “Flare_Source”, make sure 3D is enabled for it.

    Now after you apply the flare effect to a new layer, set the flare source to an expression:

    thisComp.layer("Flare_Source").toComp([0,0,0]);

    Spot on, Jon!
    Thanks a lot, worked like a breeze.

    Really nice animation, BTW.

    Best,
    Alex.
