    Hi,

I have recently moved some assets, in fact just relocated some folder from desktop to other directories. As a result, many of my compositions in an important project do show colored bars. I was prompted that some files are lost. I know they are not “lost” tho i can understand what the software means.

    How can i solve that?

After Effects doen’t import actual files in just references them, so if you move folders AE doesn’t know where the reference has gone. You can right click one of the “missing” items in the project window and choose replace footage then navigate to the new location of that item then click it and click open. If all the “missing” files are in the same location AE will automatically load them. If not then you need to repeat this procedure for each different location.

in the future, if you plan on moving files, and you haven’t kept your entire project in one main folder (with subfolders), then, before moving the project, choose File > Collect Files, and AE will copy every file in the project and place it in a folder that you can move top another machine, or even a different directory.

The downside is that it only collects files in you AEP, so if you have reference materials or original files that your artwork is based on, it will not collect those.

That’s why it’s best to work in an organized format for each project(folders for art, video, audio… etc.).
