moved files from fcphd…unable to open, sequences “missing’
we use a server that the student’s “home” file on a local hard drive is copied back and forth daily on sign-in and sign out. that includes project file, saved on that hd….which links the media files on external drive.
We have had many, many, messages of files unable to open, particularly saved qt’s….from one log-in to another…..and, sequences unable to be found from log-in to long-ins……when trying to export qt .
Is this due to the copying over of files to server, that fcp is losing links?…….thanks so much.
what else could cause this?……..they are all saved identically, some open, some do not.
we usually use video compression at 15 keyframes, 48khz, 16 bit 2 channel, and have never had problems before. -

sounds like a classic case of permissions issues. on the external media drives use “Get Info” to ensure that the “Ignore ownership on this volume” checkbox has been checked. also make sure that project files are quicktime exports are saved into a “Shared” location

thanks for the response; here’s another question.
I do not have admin password access to change ownership of files…so, that presents a workflow problem.
I can’t change permissions…….is there any work-around?………Also, a “shared” location to have all save to…..30 students saving qts….where would you have this “shared” location, how large should it be, how does one avoid losing access to lost files if “server” goes down, or has other issues……..
We do not have a fibre channel connection….
