move time line the same amount as a move edit.
Posted by Matt Chapman on June 23, 2015 at 9:43 pmHey there again-
Sorry, but when I move an event on the timeline how can I get all the events to the right of it (or opposite) to follow suit? I tried ripple edit but can’t seem to make the clip move, I can only extend the heads and tails.
thanks

June 23, 2015 at 11:03 pmSelect them and move them all together. Or you can turn on and off the correct tracks (by highlighting them or not on the left hand side) and then SHIFT-DELETE

June 23, 2015 at 11:16 pmWHOA!?
So if I have a timeline this big I have to zoom out all the way and precisely select a group of events and move them?
I don’t get the highlighting thing, cause I have tried shift + delete and it never works for me or does anything. I have clicked and made some tracks blue.
This seems like a pretty hard way to go when I trim 10 frames off of a clip on a 12 minute timeline, I have to zoom all the way out, then move it 10 frames, then zoom back in?
Pretty in efficient, I know that Premiere must have a better way. I believe!

June 25, 2015 at 4:00 pmWe call it TRACK TETRIS and it’s quite the debate in the Final Cut or Not Debate Forum. Ask your question over there.

EDIT: You can also use nesting to “group” things, but and this is a big BUT it makes delivering audio stems a bit difficult.

You need to get used to using the correct trim tools in Trim Modes. They are powerful but also complex and conditional). Well worth studying and learning and even customising your shortcuts to suit them.
Some will ripple edits, some leave gaps, some roll the edit point.
Also one can use Insert and Overlay and Lift /Extract controls combined with correct track targetting to achieve a “ripple”.
If one is determined to move clips in the timeline after a point…use the Track Select Tool.
