Move prefs?
Posted by Ron Craig on June 5, 2010 at 1:23 amPerhaps this has been answered here. Apologies if it has. I did two searches on the forum archive and didn’t find an answer.
Will my FCP6 preferences work in FCP7? If so, is it just an issue of cutting and pasting the prefs from the old system to the new?
Any advice?
Thanks.

Just test it.
Your Mac won’t explode.

Yes…I’m sure it won’t explode. (Although that would be an interesting scene to film…)But the reason I haven’t tried that is because I don’t want to have it “sort of” work and then run into problems down the line. Come on, Rafael, give it up: Have you done this? Does it work?
And if my machine explodes, I’m blaming you.

Till no long ago the only way to keep old preferences was to save somewhere a set of “clean preferences” and replace the one in the FCs Preference Folder.
I guess will work. I don’t think will be much difference, if any, between the preferences in FC 6 and 7. FC 7 is mostly an update.
i don’t see any risk in trying this. If it doesn’t works, just trash them and let FC build a new set.[Ron Craig] “And if my machine explodes, I’m blaming you.”
Blame me, but film it 🙂

June 6, 2010 at 7:46 pmYou could try saving first version prefs with Preference Manager then restoring to the new FCP version. I have no idea if this will work, but it’s a handy program and works with most, if not all, the programs in FCS.
