Activity Forums Compression Techniques mov to mpeg

I’m looking for an app to convert a mov to a mpeg-1 file…I know that its possible using Cleaner. Unfortunately, I don’t have a copy of Cleaner. I do however have FCP and Compressor. Maybe there is a free solution to this or maybe its something i’m overlooking that I might be able to do with my existing software.
Thanks to anyone who might be able to offer any help!

    Thanks,
    uwishbiff

yes, compressor allows you to export out using mpeg 1…in the apple presets, the MPEG-1 DVD 1.85 will give you an extensino of .m1v, so just make a new custom one, that has the extension .mpg

    thats it!

I don’t believe some versions of Compressor will mux MPEG-1. I think 1.2.1 did, but versions prior to that could not. If for some reason you are forced to use an earlier version, and can only output elementary MPEG-1 streams, then I’d recommend BitVice Helper or MPEG StreamClip (both free). There is also ffmpegX ($15) which will do a better job encoding the video to MPEG-1 than Compressor. But it can be difficult to use for some.
