I captured footage a client sent me and they just want it as AVIs. I cut each tape down to thirds or so and exported to DV-NTSC AVI. I chose DV-NTSC, not Cinepak, and when they export, the client cant open it and when I open it there is no video. I tried QT, and it either fails or there is no video. MPEG stream clip: no video. Compressor: no video. He wants to edit it in Windows Movie Maker (I know, I know) and dosnt want WMV. But even if he did, Im not sure there would be video. WHat do I need to do? And I have tried this on three machines so far: My Macbook pro, my iMac, and my Mac Pro at work.

the problem may be in your client’s computer.
I’ve exported few times DV AVI for PCs without any problem.

No, “I” cant even play them. The only ones I can play are flukes that only export 3 min of a 20 min video. And I dont even know how that happened!

Did that. The only way it works with mpegstream is using divx and it turns out horribly pix elated. using DV-NTSC, there is either no video and am told it is an invalid video file, or it will spit out 3 min of a 20 min clip that only QT can play.

I realize the answer is probably no, but if you have Telestream Episode, it can do .avi files.

I did some googling and came across this little app and tutorial- https://blog.bitcomet.com/dvd_vedio_audio/post_24056/

Might help you out. It’s always been my experience that .AVIs are a world of pain, aggravation and render wanders. Welcome to the club.

I have heard that, but I have never had a problem like this. It has to be the footage, but what in the world would cause this? We export AVIs all the time. The only thing different is that the footage was shot on a 1 chip JVC and captured on the same camcorder. But I woudnt think that would matter. WMA ended up working, but thats still compressed to heck. I will check out that little pgm. Thanks.
