I’ve been given a whole load of .mov files by someone and I need to use media encoder to convert to .avi so that I can run this deflicker filter – https://www.compression.ru/video/deflicker/index_en.html which doesn’t support .movs.

Okay so anyway, the problem I’m having is that when I bring in any .mov, whatever the output settings much of the video goes crazy with block colour – see attached. The bottom is what it should look like, and does for a few seconds, and then it flicks to the crazy block over and over.

I’ve never come across something like this, and even tried different .movs I have which don’t bring up that problem. I’m guessing it’s a problem with how it’s been produced before I received it?

    many thanks

Just realised it’s not just in media encoder but powerdirector, so must be for all video editing software?

Here is a link to one of the short films if you fancy downloading and having a look – https://www.dropbox.com/s/w9wziuf2rgv8phq/Lecture%2022%20-%20Introducing%20Hypnosis_Exercise_Healthy_Nutritious_Foods.mov?dl=0

I’m on a Mac so I can’t help directly. Perhaps the following is helpful:

    1. Downloaded the above file from your link and it plays fine. I am able to convert that file to other formats without errors. I assume this is a source. So the source appears to be fine.

    2. I am able to convert that to .avi via MPEG Streamclip, but not able to confirm playback given conversion process used to playback .avi movies on a mac, but even that process seems unremarkable.

    3. Have you tried another application like MPEG Streamclip to make the .avi conversion? https://www.squared5.com/

If MPEG Streamclip works then perhaps something is ill with AME; if Streamclip fails, then perhaps it is something on your PC.

Your version of AME and information on your operating system might help others as well.
