    Hello!

I am trying to edit .mov files in Vegas Pro 12 that will not play the video files but will only play the audio files. In Quicktime, only the audio plays & in every other player I have the same thing happens, audio only no video. I have downloaded VLC player & the .MOV files play video & audio.

I need to know, how do I open these files in Vegas so I can edit them ?

Here is what movie inspector says about the files.

    Format
    XDCAM EX 1080i60 (35 mb/s VBR)
    1628×916 millions
16-bit integer (Big Endian) Stereo 48.000 khz
    Movie FPS 29.97
    Normal size 1920 X 1080 Pixels
    Current size 1628 X 916 Pixels

    Thank you for helping me!

    Shawn.

Most likely you gonna have to convert them using a conversion
software, then you can drop them in Vegas for editing.
Where did these files came from?

    Hello Steve.

I’ve got it figured out a bit. The file is an XDCAM EX file. I have found a demo codec that works, https://www.calibratedsoftware.com/store/WindowsIndividualStore.asp

It cost $149.00 though. Now I’ve been reading about installing an SxS
device driver. I just tried installing it but no luck.

Now I’m reading I may need an SxS Device Driver and SxS UDF Driver.
    Got to admit I’m confused.

I just need to import an XDCAM EX file into Vegas then edit. Do you know of a cheaper route then the $149.00 codec I listed ?

    Thanks!! !! !!

    Shawn.

How did your XDCAM EX get into a MOV container? They should be MP4 files and Vegas Pro supports this natively.

    Hello John! And Steve!

I was handed the files from my church. They gave me an SD card, I have dumped all the info from the card to my computer but cannot get Vegas to open them. The audio plays on Vegas but no Video.

I’m stuck not knowing what to do ?

    Any suggestions would be great!

    Thanks!!

[Shawn Bossick] “They gave me an SD card, I have dumped all the info from the card to my computer but cannot get Vegas to open them.”

That would have been a good time to use the XDCAM Explorer. 😉 You don’t just copy files to your PC. You should always import them using the Device Explorer or XDCAM Explorer.

What is the file extension of the files?

    Umm!

I did not know that. The file extension is .mov I tried renaming it to mp4 with no luck. I’m assuming I’ll have to take them back to get them converted.

    Unless there’s something else ?

    If not ?

    Thanks John!!

Yea, that was a last ditch effort. Since MP4 is a subset of the MOV container, you can usually rename MP4 to MOV and not have any problems but it doesn’t always work going the other way. 🙁

If its no big deal to take them back and import them using the
Device Explorer, that would be your easiest solution then.

I’ll give the same reply I did to your other related thread and that is to check out my replies in the How do I open an XDCAM file in Vegas? thread.

I’m a couple years late here with a less than ideal solution, but VLC player can convert the file to several different formats. Does a pretty good job of it, too.
