I’ve found a mov in our archive that wont play in quicktime (not a movie file) but will play in VLC. What can i do to get this file back?

i did try searching but he keywords used are so general that i couldnt find anyone with the same problem

    thanks

What codec is the movie? You may need to find an old codec to get it to play in QT. Or try to export from VLC to convert it to a QT codec that you can play.

‘get info’ says dvc-pal, linear pcm, which is the same codec as other files that play fine in quicktime.

id like to avoid re-encoding it if at all possible.

There’s clearly something wrong with the file. The best thing may be to bring it into something that can export or render it back out. Can you get it to work in AE?

no, not in AE, FCP, Quicktime or MPEG Streamclip, but it does work in VLC…very strange, VLC doesnt have very broad options for exporting though, or re-wrapping…
