If I am wanting to use .mov files for my video presentation, what compression rate should I use so I won’t lose quality on a 10×10 screen?

What resolution is the source footage? Do you mean export as .mov or use .mov files in Vegas? Vegas supports fully customisable H.264 .mp4 files which open in Quicktime. You can change the extention to .mov and play with Quictime. With a 10 by 10 screen, the video won’t fill the screen without changing the output aspect ratio to 1 by 1. Danny

My source files are avi, but the files are too big and take up too much ram on my midi controller (vj work). I want to output as .mov, but i don’t want to loose quality when i blow it up to 10 foot x 10 foot. I don’t see wehre you change to output ration to 1 by 1.

    just to be clear:
    avi is merely a package.
    mov is merely a package.
you can have an uncompressed file packaged in an .avi or in a .mov.
you can have a hightly compressed file packaged in an .avi or .mov.
you can have the exact same file packaged in both containers, and the file size will be approximately the same. Render a file to DV in an avi package and then do the same thing with a Quicktime/mov file.
    They’ll be nearly identical.
For VJ work, I’d recommend an .mp4 file, wmv file, or MPEG2 file.
