December 5, 2011 at 8:01 amYou’re definitely right about the desktop real-estate. I used to use a 6×11 Intuos3, but had to replace it with a Intuos4 “Small” because the 6×11 threatened to push my former Tangent CP200s off the back edge of my console, since I prefer having the tablet in front of me when I use it, instead of to the side. It’s not as bad now that I use an EclipseCX panel, but having the keyboard and Wacom stacked in front of the Eclipse just doesn’t work, ergonomically speaking, hence my need to use the mouse.
I’ve come to terms with the fact that once I get my PenMoto unit, I’ll have to re-train myself to use the Wacom to the side of my body instead of in front of it.
But really, it’s the lack of scroll-wheel functionality that I miss when using the Wacom stylus. I’ve never been able to warm up to using the “touch strips” on the Intuos tablets as a substitute for the scrollwheel on a mouse. I don’t really know why, but it just doesn’t feel right to invoke scrollwheel actions that way.

December 5, 2011 at 6:31 pmSomeone here made a macro setup for the Ableton, it requires Ableton’s Auto-Map Pro and another utility app called quick keys. This gets you 64 keys with tons of functions for Resolve I have been using it for a while and really like it. If you can’t find the thread on this forum email me and I will send the files.

December 7, 2011 at 12:40 amIf you are interested in a simple mouse, have a look at the Logitech v470. With the Logitech Software you can map Keyboard shortcuts to the keys & wheel. I’m using the left & right push mouse wheel for next/previous scene.
I believe there are models with 4 or 5 extra buttons for extra shortcuts.Btw the v470 is a bluetooth mouse and might not work smoothly with the poor MacPro bluetooth module. A cheap USB bluetooth dongle will solve the problem.

December 7, 2011 at 3:49 pmI actually really like the Wacom Bamboo pen & touch. The form factor is really nice and small, which replicates mouse movements better than larger tablets, the Touch component lets me pick up the pen and use two fingers for scrolling, and if I just want to quickly touch somehting, I don’t always have to pick up the pen.
As far as mice, As a lefty I have far less choices. But hands down, the Razer Death-Adder, which has a left-handed version. The build quality isn’t fantastic, and they don’t like USB switchers (I’ve gone through 3, but warranty did cover them), but the mouse is so comfortable, and the software lets you get the movement just right.
