    Hi CC,

I have a 5TB raid stipe on my PPC Mac. I need to transfer the work to my Intel Quad (I need rendering speed). How can tell the atto card that the stripe exists? can i copy the prefs from the PPC to the Intel machine?

these companies all use different striping techniques. If you are using the SAME card vendor (ATTO UL4D, and UL5D, etc.), you should be ok. But if you have a RAID 5 array from “vendor a”, and then move it to another Mac, with the Raid card from “vendor b” – it will not appear – EVEN IF IT IS ON THE SAME INTEL BASED MAC COMPUTER. I just verified this (to my disappointment).

The exception to this was when multiple vendors all used the Silicon Image 3124 chipset for port multiplication (which was RAID 0)- these drives mounted everywhere. But the RAID 5 stuff – you need the specific manufacturers card.

this is IF he used the atto card to create the stripe. There is no information on the post as to what type of storage is hanging off the back of the PPC. If it is a fibre attached array, that’s a different story… if it’s a “dumb” chassis stuck on a raid card, then true he will have some issues-
