MOTU – HDX-SDI or V4HD
Posted by Carmen Emarda on April 23, 2011 at 1:26 pmHello Everyone!
Has anyone tried Interfaces from MOTU Product such as HDX-SDI?
I am thinking to choose it rather than DECKLINK series from Blackmagic Design due there are many rumors of troubles for WIN XP32.
MOTU has great AUDIO interface as well and Whatever information are welcome!
Thanks for your kind reply.

Sorry I have not but read further as to why I’m replying.

Do you really want to buy a brand new piece of equipment based on it’s support for an outdated and unsupported operating system? I realize that you are probably still using Windows XP but Windows 7 64-bit is the future and you should think about upgrading and buying new equipment that supports the latest OS’s. This is up to you, but I have been burned by my own short sighted thinking before and regretted it so I’m just passing this along.

My information may be old and outdated, but it was always my impression that MOTU was first and foremost a Mac company and their PC products have had poor drivers and support. This may have changed but I would check with PC users of their product and don’t assume because their Mac users are happy that you will be happy.
In looking at the MOTU site for their video products, they list Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 as being supported on the PC. No mention of Sony Vegas Pro. By contrast, BlackMagic Designs supports Sony Vegas Pro and is supported by Sony as well (they are listed as a valid preview device in Vegas).
So here is the question you should be asking yourself:
When you contact MOTU support with a Sony Vegas Pro problem… what do you think their answer is going to be? My guess would be… sorry we don’t support Vegas!
I would contact MOTU and make sure they are willing to help you with Vegas problems when it doesn’t work. They may make awesome Mac products, but that has no bearing on their PC support. I would hate to see you get burned.
Have you looked a AJA cards? The AJA Io Express, Xena 2K, LH, LHe, LHi, LS, and LSe cards are all supported by Sony Vegas Pro.

April 23, 2011 at 10:07 pmI have had NO issues with Motu products (audio) in the 11 years I have used them…all PC.
However, I also thought about this product and did not look further when I did not see any support for Vegas. So I agree with John on this. I use the Blackmagic Intensity Pro and have had great luck!Regards

I have an HDX-SDI that I am using with a Sony VAIO i5 Notebook and Premiere CS5 under Windows 7 64 bit.
The box works really well as long as you meet the system requirements. It needs Premier to record. There is no stand alone capture without the Adobe program. It does everything MOTU says it does.
I called MOTU tech support for some help and they were fantastic. I would certainly recommend the HDX-SDI and MOTU in general.
Good Luck,
Lonnie
