Dear motion gurus, I’ve looked through most of the archive posts and can’t find any additional tips to motions’ performance. Just installed 3.5 g of ram, upgraded to the 6800 card on a dual 2 gig G5 os 10.3.9. I tested a Pal DV project with one template plus one DV video movie clip coming off an apple raid. I even switched of the preview on the decklink monitor output with only slight improvement in fps. I’ve read something about 2k vs 4k for the canvas, but unsure what it means. Motion2 isn’t due until after the deadline and I have to make a decision soon whether to cut my losses and start again in AE unless someone comes to the rescue.
    TIA

I’ve got more or less the exact same system and have no problems at all.

What framerate are you getting if you use just a particle like ‘clockwork’ in a PAL 10bit sequence/preset?

I take it you’ve repaired permissions etc. Also try the Blackmagic speed test on your RAID.

I don’t have a Decklink, but I have a dual 2.5 Ghz G5 with 6800 Ultra and it’s definitely not sluggish for me. Most is in real time. In some places, I have too much going on to be real time so I then revert to working like I work in AE all the time — render RAM preview.

Make sure you have all your updates because there was a Pro Application Support 3 update recently that will affect Motion.

Performance also depends on what you are doing. If it’s heavy with particles and behaviors, the CPU (dual 2.0) is the culprit.
