I’m guessing someone has asked about this before, but I must have tried the wrong terms in the search.

I have some footage, both of the room empty and also with the actor(my 6 year old). I’m trying to recreate the “superspeed” effect on smallville that show a long motion trail behind Clark as he runs at superspeed. How can I create this with AE 6.5 PRO without using any additional plug ins?

My overall movie is about 6 shots, each was also shot with just the background and then again with her in it in the event I needed it.

    Thanks for the help,

    Jeff

I believe “echo” might be a good place to start based on your post. I’m not that familiar with Smallville.

To make things easier, try to record you character in front of a een screen, then key it, so the echo effect does not repeat al the foreground.

Thanks for the info. Since I have the background without the character and then the video with the character and background, is there anyway to key out the background to make this easier? I thought a while ago I saw something like that but I’m not sure if that was a plugin or 3rd party app.

Not that it works all that well, but there is an effect called difference key (Effect > Keying > Difference Key) that does this.

It keys out based on differences between 2 pieces of footage.

Unless your background just happens to be a simple color or anything flat, chances are you’re going to have to rotoscope her.
