    Hello,

I need some help with adobe after effects. I have tryed a “Motion Tracking” tutorial some days ago. I have tryed to track a text in my video. Everything is working great but when the camera is moving out, the tracking points don’t stay on the tracking area.

I have uploaded a short video clip to show you exactly what I mean.

I hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance!

AE’s built in tracker can only track points on screen. Once they leave the frame, AE has no way of knowing where they are. If you have CS4, you might want to take a look at Mocha, which is a planar tracking system and should work well for this type of track.

There are two ways you can use AE’s native tracker though. Either create a series of nulls, parented to each other and each’s position set by individual track points. See Andrew Kramer’s excellent tutorial on Set Extensions to more information on that technique.

Alternately…track a point as long as it is on screen. Then just before it disappears, hold down ‘ALT’ and move the tracking boxes to a new point to track. Your original track point remains where it was and you can now continue tracking. There are problems with this technique though. For one, it would be very hard to run a reversed comparison track, but it is a quick shortcut. (I’ve got a feeling this tip is also from a tutorial, but for the life of me, I can’t remember who’s it was).
