I was trying to follow along with some of AK’s tutorials involving motion tracking (demon face, set extension, etc). I have found that even when placing my tracker controls in virtually identical places as Kramer, my track comes out a little…uhhh…wonky, to say the least. I think I have a decent understanding of what the tracker controls do, as well as what makes good track points, but ALL of my tracks are still bad. Are there settings I’m missing here? Do some video cards work better than others? Or do I just suck? What’s the deal?

I have the same problem sometimes. I have excellent tracking points and when i select analyze forward the tracker goes crazy and does not always stay on point. On occasion i have had to reset and retrack 5,6,7 times before it actually stays in position, and the funny thing is when i get it working properly the adjustments i make are very small. i think its down to the video footage, if its not very clear or the track point colour is very similer to the background it gets confused.

well…after scouring the web for resources related to proper motion tracking, I find myself in the same position as yesterday…no idea why my tracks come out so bad.

i downloaded Mocha and love it…but, of course, I’m not about to drop $1500 for it. Anyone know of a cheap (or free) alternative that can boast better reliability than AE’s built in tracking?
