Motion Tracking
Ok, new to the whole Mac/FCP/Motion deal…been an editor for 20+ years. Been editing for the last 10 on Avid|DS and now learning this blasted Mac/FCP/Motion deal. So, here is my question:
I’ve been trying to motion track something and it will only go a couple of frames and then give me a big “X” and quit. Now, in DS, you could pick up where you left off and keep rendering but there seems to be no option for this in Motion 3.
Basically, I have a wand that I would like to add some pixie dust to and it seems that the wand is going to fast (plus it goes off screen) and it just freaks out Motion. Once anything goes off screen it DEFINITELY gives me the big X and stops. HELP!

you have plenty of options, for one of them, when you get the X because something moved to fast you can move the tracker and then hit the analyze button and it will keep going. Hope this helps and best of luck.

check the ‘offset track’ box and try again 🙂
experiment with repositioning your tracker at the point you pick it up again.Carsten

There is: Syntheye, https://www.ssontech.com
But it’s the high art of tracking which I find often too much for my little editor brain 🙂 (but I need it for 3D)and of course After Effects (which I don’t have)

I’d think Mocha would be the way to go for this shot.

OT, Mark, you look much thinner in the excellent “mac break studio” videos than you do in your cow avatar. Is there a motion filter for that?
