  • Motion templates – limit on text size? alignment problems?

Posted by Joe Mcneilly on December 9, 2010 at 10:01 pm

I have a Motion template with a large Number right in the middle (using it for a countdown). Naturally, I want it to be a dropzone, and reuse it throughout the Final Cut edit. So in the Motion project, it is sized at 544 points. But when I bring the template into Final Cut, the size seems to max out at 288, and the number is all out of alignment, nowhere near where I placed it in Motion. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix the template so I get consistent results?

Otherwise, I suppose I could just render dumb .movs for each number…But I want to be able to deploy changes quickly across the entire project. Suggests?

Instead of increasing the font size of the text in Motion, increase the scale (Properties tab).

I’ll give that a shot. Hopefully the text will stay crisp! Thanks for the suggestion.

Text is vector, it will stay crisp at any size – providing you set the render quality to Best – do it in both Motion and FCP (sequence settings – render control tab).
