motion template change from 486 to 480
wow, just wasted over two hours trying to figure out why Motion templates will only open in 720 by 486. When used in FCP they have to re-render and looks terrible. Went to project presets over and over and 720-480 is selected. Tried a variety of workarounds.
Basically how can I open a template and use in FCP at the normal 720-480.
Bet this is an easy one..sorry just can’t seem to figure it out.

Not sure what you mean. Different template themes are available in different resolutions and frame rates – in the Template Browser, you can use the pop-up menu at the top right to filter them by HD, NTSC, and PAL. If you choose an HD template, it will be HD – but you better first make sure your sequence settings match the setting of the template before you edit it into the sequence otherwise it will be scaled to fit the sequence.

Placing a Broadcast SD 720×486 should look great in a 720×480 timeline. All it does is cut of the 6 lines you don’t need. In FCP go to Sequence, Settings, Render Control and set Quality to Normal. Hope this helps and best of luck.

i want a 720 by 480 motion sequence, which I think it is since it says so in the preferences project settings. but whn I bring into fcp it is still 486.

You need to check the setting for your current sequence, NOT for new sequences you create. Select your current sequence and go to Sequence > Settings.

Oh, and when you say it looks terrible, could be many factors there:
1) Are you evaluating the quality in FCP’s Canvas? For a DV sequence in particular, you can’t. You have to use a broadcast monitor
2) Did you adjust the settings for rendering Motion projects in FCP? Sequence > Settings > Render Control tab
