Motion Path – Along dashed lines
Hey everyone, new to the forums and pretty new to after effects but I’ve dived in head to toe.
I have a simple problem, that I have not figured out, I understand using masks for assisting in motion tracking, but in this instance I don’t have that luxury.
I created a simple dashed line, with the pen tool, and added “trim paths” so I could control the dashes moving along. I want an object to follow this path, like a plane on a moving map.
Thanks for any help and sorry if this is such a dumb question, i’ve looked around and tried a few things, but no luck. I’m sure its a 2 sec solution

If you highlight the path and use edit copy, you can then paste it as a motion path on the position property of your object.
Note – you need to select the Path not the whole shape layer, and your destination object must have a position key frame already applied.

Thanks Paul and Simon. I knew it would be something very simple, I just somehow didn’t interpret that single keyframe in the paths to be all the motion created by the pen tool.
