How would i create a motion menu for Encore DVD in AE so that the camera would focus in on a certain clip, move to another clip, and then pull back to see a large collection of clips and stills that will comprise the motion menu. In this background will be certain stills that will serve as the menu buttons for the program. Thanks for any help

You’re free to design everything as you see fit, but you should be aware that what you describe is actually a series of menues connected by transitional clips, each with its own in and out actions, sub-pictures and whatnot. So basically you would need to split up your stuff into multiple small clips and export them separately (or create separate timelines in Encore and trim your clip there). It’s doable, but it’s a lot of work. Good luck with the authoring!

Alright, if i were to do that how would i go about making sure that the transitions work out and did what they were supposed to.

You can’t really control that. Buttons will always only jump to the next PGC or chapter marker, so you will always see some flashing, should your motion menu not be at the ideal frame (in addition to the slight delay introduced by the jump itself on a hardware level because the optics of the player need to move and read another part of the stream). You should make sure that each preview image goes thru a full cycle and then animate your transition as you need it after this one cycle. This way you can at least adjust the incoming animation in the next menu to be halfway seamless. The transitions themselves need not be anything special, just dumb timelines that are entered from one menu and exit to another menu. As long as you keep your navigation linear, you should have no problems keeping track of your transitions and timelines. Things will however get very bloated and at times confusing, if you add more levels of navigation.
