I open Motion and it keeps crashing on me. The version that I have came with my HD Final Cut Studio and I have been doing all the updates.

Has anyone had this problem and what is the fix if it has been happening…it is driving me nuts…I have not had a chance to really jump into Motion and now that I have a project to do it with…this is happening.

One thing that seems wierd is that when it starts up…the Motion splash screen says Upgrade…and no version…but it came with the complete HD Final Cut Studio.

    thanks for any help.

I’ve been having a similar problem and haven’t yet found what’s going on. I’m on a new 2Ghz dual core PowerMac with 4.5 GB of RAM and the stock Nvidia 6600 LE card (until I can upgrade to the 7800 GT). On occasion, Motion immediately quits or locks up with the spinning color wheel on occassion. I haven’t been able to determine a pattern yet. Sometimes it happens when I’m clicking through the effects (behaviors, filters, emitters, generators), and other times when I try to apply various effects.

BTW, I’m also running the latest Motion 2.01 that was packaged with Final Cut Studio and it’s splash screen does not have a version number either. I thought it was weird too. What’s equally strange is that the version number shown in my About Motion window is still showing 2.0. And I’m sure that I’ve upgraded to 2.01. ???

This forum is my first stop, so I’ll be scanning all the other Motion forums I can find. I’ll post again if I find anything out.

Oops. My mistake. It seems I have not updated to Motion 2.0.1 as I had thought. It’s hell getting old. I’ll let you know if I see any improvements on my side.

Cool…I may just call Apple tech today…I really need to be able to use my Motion for this project.

I will keep you posted, as well.

    Thanks.

There is a lot of stuff about this on the Apple Motion forum…if any of it works…I will let you know.

One thing that seems to be working for some is: Open Font Book and look for duplicate fonts(signified with an astrisk to the right of it)…have the Font Book resolve the duplicates and then do the verify fonts. This has worked for some, but not me.

Good luck and I will keep posting if I get something to work.

    Hi Tim,
Yep, I read about the Font issues. And I had them as well. My font situation was a mess. Lots of duplicates. All cleaned up now. I just finished clicking through, adding, playing with all the different filters and particle emitters and things were very stable. Hadn’t crashed since I fixed the font problems. I’ll keep you posted if something else crops up. Are you still having problems? What’s your setup?

    Best,
    Bruce
