motion installed, still missing prores codecs
Everywhere I have looked the only way to get ProRes encode/decode on a Mac Premiere Pro system is to buy either FCPX, Motion or Compressor. I picked up Motion for $50, installed it.
No ProRes in any Adobe app.
What gives?
Do I need to copy files into a QuickTime library?
Did I just blow $50? -

So I found a post over @ Adobe. forums.adobe.com/message/4447748
Had to install the ProApps Codecs v1.0.1 and magically the codecs appeared.
I hope this helps others. -
I find it ironic that PC users don’t have to buy, or do, anything really for ProRes support, as long as the free QuickTime is installed. Just an observation

Well decoding is free on both systems with Quicktime installed.
For encoding on Mac, you have to install an Apple Pro app which comes with the ProRes encoder. Final Cut, Motion, etc. Motion is usually the cheapest of the bunch so it’s popular to pick up.
Windows users are stuck with commandline tools like FFMPEG and FFMBC to encode ProRes. It’s free, but I think Mac support for these tools are spotty. Regardless, the workflow is complicated. I created a helper program for batching ProRes, https://www.fallenempiredigital.com/blog/prhelpersoftware/ but there are also a few less niche GUIs that can help you encode single files.
