    Jello,

Is there a way to adjust the speed or motion of your footage in FCPHD without right clicking On the clip. I find when you adjust speed it’s very choppy. Is there a smother way? I’m doing variable speeds as well as reverse and forward.
Is there a motion adjuster in FCPHD?

    Thanks

Do answer your first question yes there is another way of changing the speed of a clip without right/control clicking it. One is Modify>Speed. the other faster way is cmd-j.

To smooth out the motion try toggling the blend frames option. Also you might want to check out Graeme Nattress’s G Map Frames filter https://www.nattress.com/Products/standardsconversion/GMapFrames.htm

Keep in mind you’ll never get a true slowmotion effect without shooting at a higher speed(>30/24). As for speeding stuff up you can get away with a lot more. If you have it, you may want to experiment with Apple’s stock stop motion filter.

    hope that helps

And if you want an even more difficult, time-consuming way to do slow-motion, try Shake’s “interpolation” mode. It generates new “original” frames using a mesh algorithm. It does also have a “blend” and “nearest” mode — but you can get that in FCP.
