  • Motion Blur on Shatter effect?

Posted by Walkingduck on May 2, 2007 at 8:25 pm

    Hello folks,

I was wondering if anyone knows a way to apply motion blur on shatter effect in AE.
I noticed that the motion blur on the timeline won’t work on the effects and I’m not sure if any of the blur effects will work with it.
The shatter effect makes the box pieces and flying toward camera, so I’m trying to apply motion blur in depth.

Could anyone please help me on this?

    Thanks a lot.

I dunno if this will be good enough for you but it does give a reasonable facsimile of Motion Blur for Shatter as concerns depth.

    Duplicate the layer with shatter.

Precompose that bottom layer, move all attributes. Then add Time>Echo with Number of Echoes: 6 (to taste), and Decay: 0.80

No Add an Adjustment layer to the top with Fast Blur (to Taste) at 4 0r so.

You might want to add different blurs amounts to the bottom and top layers (another adjustment layer between the two Shatter layers).

Instead of Echo on the bottom Shatter layer you might also want to try CC Force Motion Blur, CC Wide Time

Aharon Rabinowitz has made a tutorial just exactly for this. He even gives an example on how to use it on the Shatter effect. You can find it here

Thanks a lot. That really helped.
I’m not quite happy with the result, but I think I can kind of noddle with it more to see if I can get better result.

    Thanks a bunch.

Easier to just use CC Force Motion Blur. I think it’s a time effect.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
