motion blur on a expression animation – possible?
Posted by Thor64 on December 25, 2005 at 11:44 pmNow I know that AE 6.5’s motion blur only work on keyframe animated stuff.
Anyway, I have created a pendulum expression (kind of) controlled with some sliders that needs the smooth motion blur. Can this be achieved? And without having to put it in a new comp, since I have all these sliders to control in this one comp.Thor64 replied 20 years, 4 months ago 5 Members · 8 Replies -

December 26, 2005 at 1:10 amHmm. That might be it but I’ll wait until I have animated it all through – then it might be the solution for blurred motion. Thanks.

December 26, 2005 at 7:22 amI don’t get it. I think motion blur works exactly the same for expression controlled animation as it does for keyframed animation. Doesn’t it?

December 26, 2005 at 7:54 amYes it does. I too, like thor 64, was having problems getting motion blur (when I answered him earlier) on a pendulum (I used your pendulum setup on your AE Expression Lab Page: https://www.motionscript.com/expressions-lab-ae65/pendulum.html), and now that I go back and Check, my Composition>Composition Settings>Advanced Settings>Shutter Angle was set to a low number. I did have both the Motion Blur switches (layer and comp) on. But CC ForceMotion Blur was giving me more control, my fault, an awkward answer.
Maybe his “pendulum expression (kind of)” movement wasn’t generating enough speed to make the motion blur, or the Motion Blur switches/Sutter Angle wasn’t right.
Moral of the story, both Motion Blur Switches (layer and Comp) On, and crank the Sutter Angle up as needed will give motion blur on keyframes or expression generated movement.

December 26, 2005 at 2:41 pmhmm. Weird – it works now. Maybe I made a mistake when trying motion blur on expression controlled animation.
So you are right – it works on both keyframe and expression animation 🙂
