I got some footage in which the people on screen perform various actions. They’re pre-keyed against black. They are easy to key over a background, but when I go to create some motion blur (normally, force motion blur, or changing the phase and angle under comp settings), nothing happens, there’s no decay. I don’t get it. I’ve tried pre-comping too. Thanks.

Are you using CC Force Motion Blur?

Do you have Motion Blur enabled for the Comp as well as the layer?

Have you tried overriding AE’s Motion Blur?

Thank you Adriano. That addressed the issue very clearly. I tried what Aharon suggested and here’s what I came up with. Time Warp takes forever so I couldn’t really make it work. ReelSmart Motion Blur is great. I downloaded a demo (you can’t use it “for real” cause the footage is marked.) It’s probably worth the money because it works well and it’s very fast. As for Force motion Blur and the others, they do not work and Aharon very neatly skipped over them in his brief tutorial.
