    Hi

I’ve searched the COW but found nothing recent. My renders crash after about 20% if I use MB on some layers. It’s an HD 1920×1080 comp but I am only rendering a 1024×576 QT for client approval. If I redo the render without MB it works fine. This occurs with both AE’s render queue abd Nucleo Pro’s Background Render.

The threads that I found mostly relate to various graphics cards, but some relate to memory, which is what I suspect the problem to be with me, even though I thought I had plenty.

    Grateful for any help.

you might try using the ‘purge every XX frames’ setting in the ‘secret’ pref. to get the secret pref hold the shift key and select the any pref pane from the pref menu. then find secret at the bottom of the pulldown menu in the pref pane. set the purge frames to a number less than the number of frames ae was able to render of your comp (ie, if it crashed after 15 frames try setting to 10).

Check your composition settings to make sure the camera shutter isn’t higher than 180. While you can set the shutter up to 720 degrees this possibly causes crashes on memory intensive scenes. If you have depth-of-field on then try turning it off, maybe it’s a combination of the two causing issues.
If you can render with motion blur at half-resolution then you may simply need more memory, and Kevin’s cache solution above may work for you at the expense of render speed.

    Hope this helps,

    -Chris
