Is it possible to build an effect, generator or whatever in Motion for use in iMovie kind of like you can do for FCP X?

Not a silly question at all, very interesting, but alas not currently possible.

Actually, not silly at all, no. Seeing that as of v10 iMovie is literally a miniature version of FCP X, meaning it also uses the same Motion file format for all its effects, titles etc. (also the reason why the new “Send to FCP X” works so flawlessly), you could install FCP X i.e. Motion “.moef” et al files. The only problem being, that not nearly all the parameters controls are supported in iMovie, so many would be functionally castrated or even just not work at all. The process is also rather convoluted and I’d rather not be the one that broke your iMovie and/or project, so you might simply try googling it. 😉
